The share of e-commerce continues to grow in GermanyIt took a while, but trade via the Internet has finally arrived in Germany. Today, the acceptance of buying various goods over the net is higher than ever before. It now accounts for around
9.8 percent of total retail sales. This means that the market share has increased by almost two percent in the past few years alone. But this is only one key figure. There are sectors in which the share of Internet retailing is significantly higher.
One reason for this is that more and more companies and start-ups are discovering the possibilities for their own shop on the net.Retailing on the Internet is more popular than ever beforeThe developments for retailing can be seen in every industry today. Many companies and brands have opened their own shops on the net in recent years. In addition, even classic areas of retail have found their way to the Internet. For example, thanks to supermarket delivery services and Amazon, it is now effortless to do your typical weekly shopping over the net and have products delivered to your door. This service is still new and the market share comparatively small - but it is growing steadily. The situation is similar in other sectors. In the electronics sector, for example, the share of total trade in the industry is over 28 percent.
In fashion, hobbies and office supplies, too, the percentages of retailing on the Internet are beyond 20 percent. One reason for this is certainly the fact that a larger assortment is available here and the price can be pushed significantly below that in stationary retail with a wide variety of promotions. At the same time, an interesting trend can be observed in the shopping arcades: Whereas just a few years ago the fear here was that classic retail would die out, there is more of a specialization. Shops operating outside the big chains are creating a market with much stronger customer service and individual advice that retail via the Internet cannot yet offer.Small and private shops are conquering their share of the industryBut it's not just the big players that have a share in the growth of e-commerce. Above all, the possibility that every founder and every private person can put their own shop on the Internet today without much effort has triggered a boom. It does not take much: a good shop software, a reliable hoster and then just pick a web design and you can start selling your own goods.
Create a logo for free? This is also possible today without much effort and long research. Because there is no need for programmers or designers for their own shop, many people are discovering the advantages that e-commerce offers them.Whether small entrepreneurs, private individuals or large chains - the e-commerce sector will continue to increase in the coming years. Germany is in a phase of upheaval and even classic areas such as normal shopping are increasingly being shifted to the Internet. It remains exciting to see how much the share will increase in the coming years.
